Engineering Production Manager

 

Based:  A1 Leeds Facility

Salary: £38,000 to £42,000 negotiable dependent on experience + contributory pension scheme,

22 days holiday rising to 25.

Job type: Permanent, full-time

Reporting to: CEO

Working Hours: 8.30 -5.30 pm Monday to Friday (however flexible working hours required)

About the Company

A1 Engineering Solutions Ltd is a growing supplier of products and services to the food retail and food manufacturing sectors. After three years of continuous growth in our manufacturing department we have opened a manufacturing facility in Leeds and wish to strengthen the team through the employment of a skilled Production Manager to assist with the manufacture of refrigeration plant, water chillers, and pump stations. About the Job

This is an opportunity to make a real impact within our production team and lead the way on process and quality improvement.

Ideally you will have management experience gained within a plant manufacturing operation or production environment that has an element of product assembly. You will also have some experience of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement and essentially will have a relevant mechanical qualification or recent experience or knowledge of working with some form of heavy commercial or light industrial plant products or sub-assemblies.  Reporting directly in to the CEO, you will be confident working closely with people at all levels, from the skilled operators to Directors.

Key Responsibilities

As Production Manager for the business you will be responsible for manufacturing the products ordered by customers to the agreed deliverables of cost, time and quality. For this, you will also manage all the available human and technical resources of the production team

You will take control of the workshop and make it more efficient by redefining the manufacturing process and assembly

You will lead and define the factories day to day from a  H&S perspective – you will have an ability to identify and manage out risks. You will have the ability to manage the following;

  • Task procedures
  • TBT
  • Tool and equipment inspections
  • Safety Equipment checks
  • Staff Training – ensuring up to date / in date and any new needs identified and implemented
  • First aid

Process development and management – experience in the development of key processes, their implementation and management of said processes to ensure they run reliably

  • Oversee stock management / ordering / use / assignment to job
  • Oversee goods inwards processes
  • Manage product build timeline and distribution
  • QA – oversight of plant pre-commissioning and testing
  • Reporting – weekly / monthly reporting on progress, costs – i.e. cost vs budget for build including management of resource hours
  • Development of production methods and production schedules
  • Equipment and asset management including testing and calibration of tools and equipment
  • Resource management – holidays and sick, time sheets, general day to day staff management
  • Management of administrative resource
  • Collaborate on annual budgets
  • Carry out performance appraisals

Skills and attributes required for the role

  • A qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer or with recent experience and knowledge of working within a manufacturing / assembly environment
  • Experienced in Lean manufacturing & continuous improvement
  • Experience working with an assembled product and in making process improvements
  • Staff management or supervisory experience
  • Minimum 4 years production experience in a position of responsibility within production.

The candidate should ideally have experience in mobile refrigeration and air-conditioning.  Training will be given.

Opportunities in our Plant Manufacturing Facility in Leeds

A1 is actively looking to recruit experienced and skilled manufacturing and assembly operatives, a Commissioning Engineer and Electricians for our growing HVAC & refrigeration plant manufacturing facility.

 

We have recently opened a warehouse in Leeds and to support this continued growth A1 is actively looking to recruit for its Plant manufacturing division, mainly for the food retail market.

Operatives should ideally have an engineering background and previous experience in plant manufacturing and pack build. Brazing qualifications would be beneficial and the ability to work to scale drawings is required.

Commissioning Engineer will be capable of carrying out pre-dispatch commissioning, pressure testing, loading of software etc. and be based at the Leeds warehouse but from time to time there will be a requirement to support plant in the field.

Electricians will require previous experience of plant wiring and control panel building.

Ideally applicants will have a knowledge of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems.  Training can be given.

Applicants will be expected to work on their own and as part of a team.  Overtime will be available / required to accommodate customer demands.

Refrigeration Project Managers

A1 is actively looking to recruit experienced Refrigeration Project Managers with retail/supermarket experience.

Candidates should ideally have experience within the retail / supermarket sector.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that all projects are delivered to a high standard of quality to time, within scope and within budget
  • Daily management of subcontractors and installation teams
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Manage project from start to finish, taking full responsibility for project delivery
  • Collate costs and call offs for projects, to manage costs throughout and be KPI’d on the project
  • A general understanding of refrigeration principals and fundamentals
  • The understanding and ability to deliver key project management functions such as programmes, part ordering, Health & Safety, costing schedules, profit analysis & parts procurement
  • The ability to take full ownership and responsibility of their allocated projects ensuring that excellent quality and customer service skills are delivered from start to finish
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, team work, good work ethic and excellent communication skills are essential
